Our Personal Connection
On our trip to Colorado, we had just left Crested Butte and needed to find a place to camp for the night. Our initial spots were full, so Jtim used the Dirt app to find other camping areas and came across Cochetopa Canyon. It was only a few miles out of our way, so we decided to check it out.
The drive through the winding road was beautiful, but the first few spots we checked were already taken. Finally, we found a large parking area with a restroom and two covered picnic areas. The spot on the left was available, nestled in a valley with a small river flowing next to it. It had a nice covered picnic area and a raised fire pit, making it a perfect spot to set up camp.
We pitched our tent and started a fire to warm up. The sound of the flowing water was incredibly relaxing, and we spent the evening by the campfire, planning our next day’s exploration using paper topo maps. We decided to turn in early, lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the creek.
In the morning, we skipped breakfast and enjoyed our fried chicken leftovers from The Slogar instead. It made for a surprisingly delightful breakfast. After breaking camp, we loaded up the Jeep and set off for a new adventure. This spot turned out to be a great place to camp, especially with the luxury of a clean restroom.
